The U.S. Department of Labor’s Centennial Job Corps Center hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony last week for its location in Nampa. The center will offer education and career training to Job Corps students interested in certified nurse assistant, welding or computer technician careers.

The event celebrated Job Corps’ reintegration back into the Nampa community after a three-year grant had the Idaho Department of Labor operating the center to provide skills training to low-income young people ages 1-24.  

The ribbon-cutting included remarks from Job Corps acting National Director Erin McGee and an appearance by the Mayor of Nampa, Debbie Kling.

“It’s more than a reopening; it’s a reinvigorating of Job Corps’ commitment here in Nampa,” McGee said. “We are thrilled to welcome the Centennial Job Corps Center back into our national network, and help students meet other professionals and be in a professional setting. That sort of experience is energizing and empowering.”

After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, guests took a tour of the center and spoke with Centennial Job Corps students and staff to learn more about Job Corps’ career training programs that are free for eligible students ages 16–24.
