  • Assist with assembly, disassembly and maintenance of drilling equipment
  • Perform general maintenance and repairs on equipment
  • Handle and move heavy machinery and materials 
  • Load and unload supplies and equipment from boats and trucks

Some of the career options you will have ...

Individuals who complete the Job Corps Roustabout Operator training program often go to work for gas and oil companies on onshore and offshore drilling rigs. Roustabouts work full time and may work one to two weeks on, with the same amount of time off. The job can be physically demanding, but starting as a roustabout offers great opportunity to progress and grow in the gas and oil industry.  

The credentials you will earn ...

In the Roustabout Operator program, you can earn an industry-recognized credential from the International Association of Drilling Contractors. 

Students should also earn a state-issued learner’s permit and driver’s license upon completion of the program.

What you’ll need to start training ...

  • High school diploma or the equivalent (can be earned at all Job Corps centers) 
  • Completion of all introductory and career preparation courses
  • Passing scores on all written and performance tests
  • Meet academic (math and reading) requirements
