CRYSTAL SPRINGS, Miss. (Dec. 10, 2024) – The U.S. Department of Labor’s Job Corps program and HII, America’s largest military shipbuilder, continued to expand their partnership to provide direct career opportunities for Job Corps students. On Friday, Dec. 6, Job Corps students from across the country interviewed for roles with HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division at the Mississippi Job Corps Center. Those who received job offers participated in an onboarding event the following day at the employer’s shipyard in Pascagoula, Mississippi.

“For 60 years now, Job Corps has been committed to empowering students with the skills and education needed to succeed in high-demand jobs,” said Job Corps National Director John E. Hall. “The Ingalls recruiting event provided the perfect opportunity for our students to connect with a renowned shipbuilding contractor that is looking for well-trained employees to address the needs of our country’s shipyard workforce and contribute to our nation’s defense.”

Job Corps students from 20 campuses, with training in the welding, marine pipefitting, construction and advanced manufacturing sectors, took part in the event. More than 68 students who attended the event have received job offers thus far.

“Our partnership with Job Corps is a vital component of our overall workforce pipeline strategy and allows us to engage directly with students who are interested in shipbuilding careers,” said Ingalls Shipbuilding Vice President of Human Resources and Administration Susan Jacobs. “I am confident that these Job Corps students are joining our Ingalls team fully equipped with the 
training and skills needed to support the mission of our nation’s military.”

The Ingalls Shipbuilding recruiting event is part of a larger Job Corps initiative to establish more pipeline pathways for students to meet the demands of employers serving the country’s shipbuilding needs.
